The following areas of India are sparsely populated:
(i) Kachchh and West Rajasthan.
The soil of the area is sandy and loamy.
Therefore, farming is done in a limited area only.
It is sparse, and scarce rainfall in Rajasthan.
Hence, farming has been impossible due to the irregular supply of water.
That is the major reason for the sparse population.
The other cause of this population is the lack of employment opportunities.
(ii) The other thinly populated areas are the adjoining parts of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan and Tibet border, Himachal Pradesh, Kumauni hills of Uttar Pradesh, Northern Sikkim, etc.
The land of these areas is haphazard and rough and locked. It is not capable of supplying food grains to a large number of people.
