Two substances which can be charged by friction are:

1. Glass rod

2. Silk cloth

* Substances can be charged by rubbing and this charge generated is referred to as static electric charge.

* When a glass rod is rubbed with a silk cloth, electrons are transferred from the glass to the cloth which imparts a negative charge to the cloth.

On the other hand, the glass rod becomes positively charged due to deficiency of electrons.

* Similar phenomenon can be observed in case of plastic comb and dry hair, rubber balloon and fur, and many more combinations.
