  • There are two types of ions - Cation and Anion.
  • Cation - Positively charged ions.
  • Anion - Negatively charged ions.
  • In anion, the electrode is attracted to anode and in cation, the electrode is attracted to cathode.
  • Cation is completely made of metal atoms. Anion is completely made of non-metal atoms
  • Cation has less number of electrons than protons, whereas anion has more number of electrons than protons.
  • This implies, they both have opposite electric charges. So, they attract each other and forms ionic compounds
  • Examples of Cation: Sodium (Na+), Iron (Fe²+)
  • Examples of Anion: Chloride (Cl-), Bromide (Br-)
