- There are two types of ions - Cation and Anion.
- Cation - Positively charged ions.
- Anion - Negatively charged ions.
- In anion, the electrode is attracted to anode and in cation, the electrode is attracted to cathode.
- Cation is completely made of metal atoms. Anion is completely made of non-metal atoms
- Cation has less number of electrons than protons, whereas anion has more number of electrons than protons.
- This implies, they both have opposite electric charges. So, they attract each other and forms ionic compounds
- Examples of Cation: Sodium (Na+), Iron (Fe²+)
- Examples of Anion: Chloride (Cl-), Bromide (Br-)
