Air Pollution:

Air pollution is the degradation of air quality in the environment.

The main source of air pollution is vehicles and automobiles. The exhaust of vehicles emit gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, etc. These gases are very harmful if inhaled. The also cause acid rain. Other source of air pollution is factories and industries. The large scale factories release many harmful gases into the atmosphere. Burning of fossil fuels like coal also releases a huge amount of harmful gases.

Water Pollution:

The main cause of water pollution is factories and industries. They discharge waste water directly itno the water bodies and causes the death of aquatic life. Some factories that use water as a coolant discharge hot waste water which is again very harmful for aquatic animals. Oil spill is also a source of water pollution. Oil spill is caused by overturned ship tanks. Oil forms a layer over the water and cuts the supply of sunlight and air. The water below becomes deficient in oxygen thus resulting the death of fish and other animals. Increased use of fertilisers and pesticides also causes water pollution. The rain washes the fertilisers and carry them to the water bodies thus polluting the water.
