The various type of plant on the basis of relative requirement of light are denoted as day-neutral plants , short-day plants and long-day plants.

- When plants respond to the specific duration of light and dark periods which enhances their development then it's termed as photoperiodism.

- Day neutral plants are those plants who develop despite of how much light it's receving for growth.

Examples : Corn and rice.

- Short day plants are those plants which require prolonged amount of period of darkness for their development.

Examples : rice , tobacco , cotton etc.

- Long day plants are those plants who blossom only when they receive light more than critical length during summer season.
