ANSWER:

All inorganic materials present in fruits and vegetables form the bases.

EXPLANATION:

  1. Bases are oxides or hydroxides of metals. In fruits and vegetables, the inorganic nutrients like calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, zinc (metals), sulphur and phosphorus (nonmetal) occur naturally.
  2. The plants require these nutrients for their growth which is absorbed from soil or fertilizers. The inorganic nutrients combine with water or acids and are taken in in form of oxides, carbonates, nitrates, phosphates, sulphates. When we eat these fruits and vegetables they provide natural source of these minerals.
  3. The inorganic matter present in them decides its alkalinity or acidity. If these bases react with acid they form its salt and water or if they dissolve in water they give alkalinity.
  4. Fruits that are highly alkaline are watermelon, dates, raisins, bananas, grapes, etc. Legumes are believed to be highly alkaline and all green leafy vegetables. They help to reduce acidosis.
