Nandkishor Khatri is a character in the film - The Blue Umbrella by Vishal Bharadwaj. The film is based on the novel of the same name written by Ruskin Bond. The novel and film's plot is little different. The novel had tea seller Rambharose but the film has Nandkishore Khatri.
According to the film, Biniya has the most beautiful umbrella in the village Banikhet. She has got it from Japanese tourist in exchange of her lucky claw. Everyone admires that beautiful blue umbrella. Khatri is a tea seller, trusted by everybody but is jealous of Biniya. He wants that umbrella for him and steals it from her. He gets it dyed in red from the town and becomes an attraction. He is also called to preside over wrestling competition. The rain comes and the dye is washed off. Meanwhile, Biniya finds out the truth and Khatri is exposed. His life becomes miserable as he is boycotted in the village. Biniya is moved by his sadness and gives the umbrella to him.

Khatri is a reliable man. He is a small tea seller where people come to buy small stuff, tourists stop by to have tea there. The beauty of the blue umbrella made him jealous and he uses wrong means to have it. But he feels sad and realizes that he has done wrong because for a small umbrella he lost the credit in the whole village.

ishaagrawal: Its a coincidence that when I answered this question, the next day this film was airing on Star Gold Select HD channel :) :)
