Answer:

The process of the formation of the male gamete is called spermatogenesis.

Explanation:

Spermatogenesis occurs in three phases:

  1. Multiplication phase- The male germ cells known as spermatogonia goes under several mitotic division to form 2 types of cells. One that continues as a precursor of other germ cells and others undergoes spermatogenesis and forms sperm.
  2. Growth phase- This phase initiates meiosis when spermatogonia grow and form primary spermatocytes which are large and diploid.
  3. Maturation phase- Haploid secondary spermatocytes are formed after primary spermatocytes go under meiosis. After meiosis (ii) four haploid spermatids are formed.

Spermatozoa is transformed into spermatid by the process of spermiogenesis.

  • Spermatid is converted into spermatozoa by a huge loss of cytoplasm, condensation of nuclear matter into the head and formation of the tail.
  • The head of the spermatozoa gets detached from the Sertoli cell and released into the lumen of the seminiferous tubule This process is called spermiation.
