Answer:

I was in Goa (India) for a few days in 2006. I was in my early twenties. I went there from Mumbai and my friends came from home town in South India. The plan was made to enjoy the vacation for 5 days. However on the 4th day a storm hit Goa , it started raining heavily and so my friends left home on the 4th day. I stayed back as my ticket back to Mumbai was booked by end of 5th day. On the 5 th day, having nothing to do I walked alone in the Calangute beach when the rain stopped. I started walking a long stretch and at one place I saw a guy lying dead on the shore. The waves had taken him the day before and he died in the water. There was no one except me next to the body. I was perplexed and called the police. The dead guy's eyes were open and it felt as if he was looking in to you. There were traces of nose bleeding. I couldn't believe he was dead. I lost my mind and couldn't control my self with tears flowing. It was so depressing to see a young guy losing life like that. When the police came I reported it and walked to relieve myself of the mental trauma. I would have walked another 2 kilo meters and again there was another dead body on the shores of the beach. This time the body was just pushed on to the shores by the water. I was thinking what fateful day that was for me. A fisherman from distance ran to the water and pulled the dead man out. He asked me to help pull but I was already shivering. I said I can't help. I felt pain in my stomach , my mind wasn't accepting such painful things in a short time frame. Both the dead young men were unrelated to each other. They were carried away by the monstrous storm waves the previous day. For the police in Goa this was an usual day. Many young men lose life every day despite the police and beach safeguards put warning signs of the impending danger with sea waves during storms. Still the young lads jump into the water for the thrill of it and some of them lose life. The lifeless eyes and the bleeding nose ,when the lungs get burst, are something I want to forget even to date. So, friends- play safe with the sea water. One can lose everything for nothing in return!
