Note: This is a narration of a true incident.
My mum was out of the town to meet my sister who was in a boarding school in Bhubaneswar. My father was in Delhi for a meeting, and I was alone at home (I used to live in this hill station in Odisha called Damanjodi which is like a Virginian suburb ).
One evening, I was walking down the street with two of my friends. They were both older than me. The sunny skies suddenly turned dark. It started to drizzle. We rushed to my house, which was the nearest, and sat on my porch while admiring the raindrops falling. But then, it started to rain heavier. We rushed inside the house. The rain won't stop, instead, it came down heavier and heavier. The wind was not helping. All of a sudden there was a power cut.
We sat in my living room, huddled together with a candle between us, it wasn't even a proper candle but the one you put on birthday cakes.
All of a sudden, we heard a crashing sound coming from upstairs; we rushed up the granite steps and found the window broken. My friend and I rushed to the window to close whatever was left of it. I held the window against the force of the wind while my friend tried to close it. That's when the curtain rod fell on our heads. Oww.
We then rushed back to the living room downstairs because no chance we were sitting there in the upstairs corridor (which was scary even without an ongoing cyclone).
The landline was dead and our cell phone batteries were low. Somehow my friends contacted their parents and mine and let them know of our current state of supposed "safety".
