Explanation:
Peer pressure is the direct influence on people by peers, or the effect on an individual who gets encouraged to follow their peers by changing their attitudes, values or behaviors to conform to those of the influencing group or individual. This can result in either a positive or negative effect, or both. Social groups affected include both membership groups, in which individuals are "formally" members (such as political parties, trade unions, schools), and cliques, in which membership is not clearly defined. However, a person does not need to be a member or be seeking membership of a group to be affected by peer pressure. There has been considerable study regarding the effects of peer pressure on children and adolescents, and in popular discourse the term is mostly used in the contexts of those age groups. For children, the common themes for study regard their abilities for independent decision making; for adolescents, peer pressure's relationship with sexual intercourse and substance abuse have been significantly researched. Peer pressure can affect individuals of all ethnicity, genders and ages, however. Peer pressure has moved from strictly face-to-face interaction to digital interaction as well. Social media offers opportunities for adolescents and adults alike to instill and/or experience pressure every day.[1] Research suggests that not just individuals but also organizations, such as large corporations, are susceptible to peer pressures, such as pressures from other firms in their industry or headquarters city.
Answer:
- Peer pressure is the effect on an individual who is urged to follow their peers by changing their views, values or behaviors to conform to those of the influential group or individual.
- This can have a favourable or bad impact, or perhaps both. Peer pressure can affect anyone, regardless of whether they are a member or pursuing membership in a group.
Explanation:
- l used to take a lot of stress during the NEET preparation. I was worried about scoring a good mark to get shortlisted in AIIMS and AIIMS only. Soon I isolated myself and cut off all the connections with all my friends, no outings, no movies and no fun but only books and books. I was so desperate to crack.
- With such exam pressure and fear of failure, I wrote my paper. But couldn't make it. AIIMS rejected me just for one mark. And I kept on rejecting all other colleges. To my surprise, my friends made it possible To AIIMS. That's when I felt overstressed; probably the peer pressure of failure and not being able to face anyone.
- I got into depression. I felt low, and uncertain about life goals. The words of relatives and friends acted as fuel and missed no chance to demotivate me.
- And one day while reading 'You can' I self-analysed my situation and realised my mistake of not getting into other medical colleges.
- I realised my ultimate goal was to become a good doctor irrespective of the medical college. It was about how I wanted to set my journey.
- Then without wasting a second, I started working more on myself, cracked the exam and got into one of the best medical colleges in India. Though I was sad and depressed, I am glad that I could realise the situation and took the needful step.
