When we woke up on Sunday morning, the sun had already risen and the heat was already unbearable. I went to the terrace and what I saw from there was shocking. There seemed that thieves broke in Mr. Gupta who is our next door neighbor. Everything at the entrance was strewn around at sixes and sevens. The chaos revealed that the thieves had taken their own sweet time to go through each and every possession of Mr. Gupta and robbed all valuables. I remembered all of a sudden that their family had gone out for the weekend trip.
I quickly came down and informed my parents about the robbery. Both my parents and I came out to see what had happened, but we couldn't find any hints. My father quickly called up Mr. Gupta to inform him about the robbery and ask him to come back as soon as he could. Simultaneously, he informed police about the incident. Looking at us, other neighbors also swarmed there and discussions sprang up ranging from their own similar experiences to break in robberies that occurred in that area in the past; from the amount of loss to the loss recovered with the help of the police etc.
The police arrived in the meantime and since the owners were not at home, they had to wait till the time they came back. Nevertheless, they locked the entrance and asked us to inform when Mr. Gupta arrived. They came back in the afternoon and found that money and valuables worth rupees two and a half lakhs were stolen. My mom went to console them as Mrs. Gupta was in an utter shock and didn't stop crying. The police came again and they started their observations and investigations. They also asked Mr. Gupta if they doubted any of their servants or some other ones. They also asked in the neighborhood if they had seen anyone to be suspected. The police completed their job and formalities were fulfilled.
Thank God we have a good neighborhood where people are not limited to their own selves. Other friends of Mr. Gupta came and all of us took care of their need at that time. A few of the women helped Mrs. Gupta to arrange the household again. I helped their son Abhay to arrange his study as the room was all in a mess. Now they are expecting to hear anything from the police that could bring some hope of recovery of the stolen money and other valuable
