Explanation:

As per the old tradition, a guest was considered as God and deserved a similar treatment by the host. If we examine the truth in this statement in today's context, somewhere we feel that now with the changing paradigms, and with the diverse expectations of the guests, the host is always in a dilemma if he practices it honestly.

It so happened that my youngest uncle who lives in Kolkata came to live with us for a week as he had a workshop in Delhi. He was accompanied by aunt Myrrah, their two sons, Vikas and Vibhor besides his two colleagues who were also the part of the workshop. Though our house is big enough, accommodating six people was not a joke for my mom who herself is working. Nevertheless, unclue's friends were decent and they themselves firmly said that they would prefer to stay in the company's guest house and promised to visit us on the weekend.

Both my cousins studied in a boarding school in Nainital and they had vacations, but I had my exams and I fretted as to how I would be able to give them time and company with my pre-boards. The situation was really complex. They tried to spend their time going around visiting nearby places, playing games, watching television and the like. They did not verbalize it, yet it was clear that they needed me to entertain them now and then.

The main problem came when it came to dining, as my cousins were on a vacation, like all the boys who live in a hostel, they were always hungry and craving for delicacies prepared by my mom. By the way, my mom is a good cook and she had to pay the price by spending long hours in the kitchen baking, grilling and frying to fulfill their demands. I wondered if my uncle could be thoughtful enough to either shorten his visit or to come during the time I would have holidays. Then I too would have enjoyed their stay.

When the week got over and it was time for them to leave, my exam had also finished. How much I wished I could play and talk with my cousins. We saw them off at the airport analyzing the truth of the statement 'atithi devo bhav'.
