Honestly, I think my early teen years were filled with giving in to peer pressure. Here are a few reasons that I did this and maybe it also relates to why others do the same:

• The desire to fit in and be liked by others.

• For the sake of friendships.

• Fear, shame and rejection.

On some level I think adults might find themselves under the same type of pressure, but it might be more subtile. As humans we desire community and want to group into tribes because “they get me” and “they understand me”. Even the group that says, “I don’t care what others think” is a tribe.

“Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs” is a decent explanation. You can extrapolate and pivot from from that idea and build your own conclusions. I’ve attached a link for you to consider.
