The story, „The Gentlemen of The Jungle‟ discusses the whites‟ colonial and
imperial attitude towards the Blacks. Their idea of „Expansion‟ is reflected and made
clear in the fable through the jungle animals. The innocent man represents the Black
Africans, and the animals represent the Whites in the story. The kindness of man was
misunderstood as his weakness by Mr. Elephant and his friends. Mr. Elephant, who
was also one of the honourable ministers of the jungle kingdom made a friendship
with the man intentionally. He also had a plan to occupy his hut in future. So, he went
with his plan accordingly on the day of torrential rain and pleaded the innocent man to
give him a space to protect his trunk. The kind-hearted man didn‟t understand that and
allowed him to keep only his trunk inside the hut by believing the sweet-coated words
of Mr Elephant. The silver-tongued Elephant slowly occupied the man‟s hut and had
flung the man out in the rain as the Whites did for the Blacks. The man got angry and
started to grumble, but it was not useful. The Lion, the king of the jungle came along
with roaring and appointed a commission of enquiry called „The Imperial
Commission‟. The Lion had given the false assurance that he would get justice after
the Impartial Enquiry. But he was not given any chance to state his case against Mr.
Elephant. Finally, the man had to give up his hut for his „So Called‟ friend
