Sarita's bravery

It was a bright summer morning. Sarita was excited as it was the Annual Sports Day of her school. Being an ace athlete she knew there would be loads of medals for her. She slipped into her Sports Uniform and skipped happily to school.

When Sarita arrived at school she was thrilled to see the sports banners fluttering. Many cars were parked, the Chief Guest had already arrived. Everything was perfect. At the initiation of the Sports Day the National Anthem was sung.

Sarita suddenly grew emotional. Her voice trembled with patriotism as she sang the song she revered most. It seemed her Nation was asking her to do something valiant. She could not understand why but suddenly she felt a pledge being framed by her mind committing herself to the service of the Nation.

Soon the events started. It was time for her race. As the gun shot for the commencement several other gunshots were heard. Confused, all the athletes turned round to see what was happening. They found a masked man firing randomly at the Guests and the crowd.

Sarita didn’t wait a minute longer. She raced forward running as fast as she could. The man had his back turned towards her. She sprang upon him and plunged him to the ground. She was immediately helped by the security guards and the man was pinned down.

Soon the police flooded the field. They handcuffed the culprit who they identified as a most dangerous terrorist. He had come to assassinate the Chief Guest who was the District Magistrate.

The Sports Events were resumed after some time. During the prize distribution ceremony Sarita was praised for her bravery and a special prize awaited her .Thus Sarita was felicitated by the school and the police for her act of bravery.
