Answer:

It’s no secret that my parents had a HUGE impact on the person I am today. In fact, I’d say they were the biggest reason I’m so passionate about personal finance and development.

These are my actual parents, not a stock photo!

I remember walking around department stores with my mom when I was a kid and watching her negotiate for EVERYTHING. It didn’t matter if it was a new shirt for me or laundry detergent at the grocery store. She was always ready to throw down the gauntlet and haggle for a lower price.

My dad’s incredibly financially savvy as well — almost to a fault. He once dragged me along with him as he spent an entire week negotiating with a salesman for a lower price on a car. Here’s the kicker: As he was literally about to sign the papers for the car, he stopped, asked the salesman to throw in free floor mats, and walked away when they refused.

That’s an entire week’s worth of bargaining them down to an incredibly fair price, only to walk away when they didn’t throw in some floor mats he could have bought for less than 50 bucks at Walmart. I was wide-eyed and shell-shocked like I just went through three tours of duty in ‘Nam as we walked away from the dealership.

What’s my point? Two things:

My mom and dad are incredibly Indian.

Parents impact your life in more profound ways than you can ever imagine.

I don't have my grandma, only my grandpa who was there with my mom when she gave me birth.

So he was there with me from my birth.

My mom left her job just to take care of me. My dad used to go to office. So my grandpa was also there to look after me.

The following are the memorable incidents,

1. He used to spend sleepless nights taking care of me when he was 63 years old then.

2. He used to bring lunch to my school when I was in my KGs and feed me with a sweet lime juice prepared by him.

3. He used to get me toys, color pencils, sketch and also teach me hindi in my childhood days.

.

4. The most interesting incident is that once during my College days, there was a strike in my state on a particular day. He just called me the day before the strike and said “**Be safe and if you find yourself in any problem then just let me know by a call and I will be there for you”**. You know he was **83 **then. This shows his love and affection towards me.

5. On August 16th,2013 he went to hospital for a small wound in leg thumb. There while talking to the doctor he got heart attack and said he was going to die and want to see all his daughters. After that within a second he left us.

Still he is always there for me.
