Advantages of social media

Throughout the 21st century, there have been many technological advances made across the globe. One of these advances is the improvement of social media. Social media has impacted millions of lives in the way people communicate, connect, and share information with each other. As I grew up in the city of Torreon, Mexico, I was introduced to many technological devices such as computers, laptops, and cell phones. At the age of eight years old, I was able to convince my parents into allowing me to make a facebook profile online. At the age of eight, this was very unnecessary. Little did I know that Social media would become a vital part of my life in the years to come.

A few years later, i found out that i would soon be moving to the United States. Although the United States was going to be a good experience, i didn't want to leave all of my friends and family that lived in mexico. Moving would mean i wouldn’t get to see them on a daily basis. At the time, i was scared because i thought that the separation would affect the strong friendships i had made and moving meant that i would have to start all over. I would have to learn to speak english and make new friends in a new place with people i had never seen before. I was cherishing the days i had left before moving day but the day came quicker than i ever thought it would. Finally ready to take the next step in my life, i said my goodbyes and wished them all the best of luck.

After arriving to the United States, I became aware of how beneficial it was to have access to social media websites. I realized that through social medias such as facebook and/or twitter, i had the ability to communicate with secondary family members and reconnect with my old friends from mexico. There used to be no other way of communication with them, but with all the technology advances through the years, communicating with people that are not in the same geographic location as you has become accessible for many people.

When i moved to the United States, i knew was leaving a big part of my life behind me. Although i was nervous to leave my friends in mexico, Through the help of social media, i was not only able to keep a strong friendship, but also communicate and share my latest experiences with them.
