SHORT ANSWER TYPE QUESTIONS (40-50 WORDS):

1. You will probably agree that this story does not have breathless adventure and exciting action. Then what in your opinion makes this story interesting?

Answer: A Garoghlanian may be the father of a child but not its spirit. Mourad is the spiritual son of Aram’s uncle, Khosrove, who always repeats ‘Pay no attention to it. It’s no harm.’ Mourad too, has his own phrase- I have a way with the ‘horse’, ‘dog’ and ‘farmer’ too. These curious things make the story interesting.

2. Did the boys return the horse because they were conscience-stricken or because they were afraid?

Answer: The boys returned the horse because they were conscience-stricken. They were proud of their being from the Garoghlanian tribe. No member of their tribe could ever be suspected of taking advantage of others let alone theft. The two boys knew that they could not afford to stain the fame of the Garoghlanian. Hence, they overcame their childish desire and returned the horse to its real owner, farmer John Byro.

3. “One day back there in the good old days when I was nine and the world was full of every imaginable kind of magnificence, and life was still a delightful and mysterious dream…” The story begins in a mood of nostalgia. Can you narrate some incident from your childhood that might make an interesting story?

Answer: Nostalgia is a mixed feeling of sadness, joy and affection. It is presented in the form of a reverie or remembrance. I remember my school days when I was a boy of nine, extremely curious, enthusiastic and full of imagination. Our school was about a mile away from the village. On the way there was an orchard of guava and mango. We were seven boys from the village to go to school together. Though we belonged to the poorest ones in the village yet our family was respected for our integrity and honesty. There were all the reasons for us to grow up to become the proud of the family. One day we got scent of the guards being away from the orchard. We could not check our overpowering desire of tasting the luscious mangoes from the orchard. We sneaked into the orchard and without any sense of committing theft, plucked some mangoes. I justified myself recalling the incident of Lord Hanuman’s entering the orchards of Lanka and not only eating the fruits but also destroying the whole orchard. After sometime when my conscience woke up, I thought of the prestige of my family and feared of bringing a bad name to them. The next day I went to the guard and apologized for what I had done. To my amazement the guard was not angry. He gently patted on my head and said ‘I believe none of your family can be dishonest.’
