Multiplying eq ( 1 ) by 2 and eq ( 2 ) by 4 ,we get

4 × [ 5x + 2y = 3 ] ⇒ 20x + 8y = 12------eq ( 4 ) say.

Now adding eq ( 3 )+ eq ( 4 ) ,we get

6x - 8y + 20x + 8y = 14 + 12

⇒ 26x = 26

⇒ x = 26 / 26
