If you watched tid-bits of the journey of the all-women Navy crew circumnavigating the globe on a small boat and wished you could see their trials and tribulations, there’s a special show just for you. The Indian Navy and National Geographic have come together to release the documentary on the channel at 9 pm on March 8 as an International Women’s Day special film. It will also be available on Hotstar, a senior official of the network said, NDTV reported.
The team of six navy women, led by Captain Vartika Joshi, braved the treacherous seas, onboard INSV Tarini, a 55-ft sailing vessel built indigenously in a journey that lasted 254 days. With this, they became the first group of women across the world to circumnavigate the world. The crew comprised Lt Commanders Pratibha Jamwal and Swati P, and Lieutenants Aishwarya Boddapati, S Vijaya Devi and Payal Gupta.
The one-of-its-kind expedition — Navika Sagar Parikrama — started from the INS Mandovi boat pool in Goa on September 10 in 2017 and culminated in May last year, when the team returned to Goa.
