Nathan mixed salt and pepper in a dish. He held a charged balloon over the mixture and noticed it only attracted the pepper. Why did the charged balloon only attract the pepper?

as pepper contains ions whereas common salt NaCl is neutral in nature which is formed by HCl and NaOH and thus don't have free ions.

Because pepper contains ions but salt is neutral. Thus the balloon

that has ions attracts pepper
