There are three national festivals of India. They are 26th January, which is celebrated on the occasion of implementation of our constitution in the year 1950. The second is 15th August which is celebrated on the occasion of independence, which we got in the year 1947. The third one is Gandhi Jayanti which is celebrated on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Gandhiji. 26th January our President hoist the flag on Rajpath, Delhi. Whereas on Independence Day, it is our Prime Minister who hoists the flag on Red Fort. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, we celebrate the week as “Swachhta Saptah” to promote cleanliness. Some special events are called national festivals and these festivals are celebrated by the entire nation. Holi is celebrated in the northern part of India whereas Pongal is celebrated in the southern part, but festivals like Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti are celebrated by the entire nation. These days a strong sense of patriotism and nationalism can be easily seen among people.

Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January, while Independence Day is celebrated on 15th August and Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October. The importance of each day is different as 26th January is celebrated because of the implementation of our constitution on this day in the year 1950. 15th August is celebrated because we got our independence on this day in the year 1947. It is a gazetted holiday on these days by the Government of India. People celebrate these occasions by hoisting the flag and playing patriotic songs and organizing various cultural events.
