In 1986, the government led by Rajiv Gandhi introduced a new National Policy on Education. on May 1986, the national policy of education was adopted in the both the parliament in 1985, Congress had again come to the rule under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi . this government had paid especial importance on the expansion and improvement of education .Sri Rajiv Gandhi opined that after independence the country had moved rapidly in the direction of Science and technology but the direction of human resource development was not so satisfactory. noticing the scenario of the country a Firmed and well plan education system is necessary so the country can proceed rapidly in the ladder of progress. thus the Government of India published a book titled “challenge of education - a policy perspective” on August 1985. through this booklet former minister of Human Resource Development shri Krishna Pal Pante , appeal the educationally conscious people and different unions of the country to perform Nationwide discussions in order to formulated the national policy on education .on the basis of the booklet "challenge of education" the citizens of India offered their valuable advises in terms of education and government of India formulated the national policy of education .the ministry of education prepared a draft on May 1986 and represent in the Parliament .And passed on May 8 in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on 13 May. the report approved by both Parliament on May 1986 .And published as the new Educational policy of India. This policy than put reforms in Indian education system, and become an important document in the history of Indian education .
