The National Statistics Day, praised each year on June 29 to stamp the birth anniversary of a famous statistician.
Destined to a scholastically situated family, Mahalanobis sought after his initial education in Calcutta (now Kolkata). In the wake of graduating with distinction in physics from Presidency College, Calcutta, in 1912, he moved to England to study physics and mathematics at the University of Cambridge. Just before Mahalanobis left the college in 1915, he was introduced with statistics by one of his coaches.
