 \huge {\bf{\red{Natural \:Gas}}}

Natural gas is found along with petroleum in reservoirs under the ground. It is chiefly made up of methane (CH4). Natural gas is a very important fossil fuel because it is easy to transport through pipes Natural gas is stored under high pressure as compressed natural gas (CNG). CNG is used for power generation. It is now being used as a fuel for transport vehicles because it is less polluting. It is a cleaner fuel.

In some parts of India, e.g. Vadodara, CNG is supplied to homes and factories through pipes and directly used as a fuel.

Natural gas is used as a starting material for the manufacture of a number of chemicals and fertilizers.

In India, natural gas is found in Tripura, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and in the Krishna- Godavari delta.

Natural gas (which is mostly called gas only) should not be confused with gasoline (which is a liquid fuel). Natural gas occurs naturally while gasoline is obtained from petroleum by fractional distillation.
