In historical context “revolution” refers to a movement, often violent, to overthrow an old regime or autocratic institution and bring  complete change in the fundamental institutions of society.

It is a turning point of history be it agriculture revolution , social revolution, information revolution, or industrial revolution leads to fundamental transformation of a country for good reason.

Scope of revolution is wide and can be temporary. The old regime thrown for betterment of present society and  replaced by new regime. This new regime may acquire new customs which are not fit in present context.
