Graph c) is the correct answer , (6  , 20) is intersection point

Given:

  • Naveen wants to  Plant some saplings in columns
  • If  number of saplings in a column increased by 4 then column decreases by 1
  • If  number of saplings in a column decreased by 5 then column increases by 2

To Find:

  • Graph relating the number x of columns and number Y of plants in the column

Solution:

Step 1:

Number of columns = X

Number of Sampling/Plant in a column = Y

Total  saplings /Plants = XY

Step 2:

increase the number of saplings in a column by 4

number of columns decreases by 1

Total  saplings /Plants = (X - 1) (Y + 4)

Step 3:

Decrease the number of saplings in a column by 5

number of columns increases by 2

Total  saplings /Plants = (X + 2) (Y - 5)

Step 4:

Equate total Plants/saplings

XY = (X - 1) (Y + 4) = (X + 2) (Y - 5)

=> 0  = 4X - Y - 4  =  2Y - 5X - 10

On solving

X = 6  and  Y = 20

(6  , 20) is intersection point

Graph c) is the correct answer
