KOCHI: The Indian Navy (IN) rescued 55 civilians who were stranded at sea due to the cyclone Ockhi. It has deployed five ships, a Dornier, advanced light helicopters (ALH) and a P8I Boeing, the most advanced surveillance aircraft in the Navy.
“The P8I can cover a larger area. It searched the Thiruvananthapuram area in the morning and later it was diverted to Kollam area following reports of missing people in the region,” said the navy spokesperson.
Braving the rough seas, the Navy’s surface units (INS Nireekshak and INS Jamuna) rescued nine people while the advanced light helicopters and Seaking choppers were used to save 37 and nine people, respectively.
