Time taken during the next 30 km= Distance/Speed=30km/40kmhr= 3/4hr

(a)Total time taken to complete the journey= (1/2+3/4)h r=(2+3)/4hr =5/4hr

                                                                  =(5/4 * 60)min= 75 min= 1hr and 15 min

(b) Average speed= Total distance covered/ Total Time taken

                        =  60/(5/4) km/hr

                        = 48 km/hr
