When students move, note if they stray away from the straight

path. If they move along a zig-zag or a curved path (Fig. 36.3),

they cover a larger distance than the designated distance, and

their actual speed would be higher than that calculated by them.

• Remember that here we define speed as distance covered/

time taken. This is the average speed. At this stage it is

advisable to call average speed as speed.
