Locate the Ursa major constellation in the sky. The seven stars form a question mark like symbol. It will have 4 stars forming the head part the question mark. Take the two stars of the 4 stars which are farther from the tail of question mark. Join them by an imaginary line and extend it to north. At a distance about 5 or 6 times the distance between the stars, you will see a not-so-bright star. It is the pole star. Note that pole star doesn't change its position while stars do. So you can confirm which the pole star is.
