Lightning and thunder take place in the sky at the same time and at the same distance from us. Lightning is seen earlier and thunder is heard later. Can you explain?

mummum: because light travels in air at a speed of about 186,000 miles every second.Whereas sound travels much slower.
shamitspophale: speed of light is million times that of sound
tallapureddyvasu: this is because speed of the light is very faster than the sound.this is because the sound travels in vibrations but light doesn't travel like this

Lightning is seen earlier and thunder is heard later because the speed of light is faster than speed of sound. The speed of light is 299792458 m / s .
