The little boys were very hardworking. They were always ready and eager to work. The kids never complained although they knew that fate had been unfair to them. Even after so many years of suffering, their behavior didn't coarsen, they still retained their past demeanor. Such gentlemanly qualities were what impressed the narrator and his companion as well.
