Explanation:

The sun was very bright and it was extremely hot. A crow felt very thirsty. He flew here and there but could not find any water to quench his thirst. Luckily, he found a pitcher. There came happiness on his face. He perched on the mouth of the pitcher to dip his beak and drink water. But the water was very shallow. His thirst increased but he was helpless. He did not know what to do. It was a question of survival for him. He saw some pebbles lying nearby. These pebbles gave him a brilliant idea. One by one he dropped the pebbles with his beak into the pitcher. The level of water slowly rose up to the mouth of the pitcher. Answer:

"Necessity is the mother of invention"

Necessity is the mother of invention is a popular proverb. The proverb means that when put in a difficult situation, one is likely to think and be inspired to create a novel or ingenious solution.

This proverb means that the primary driving force for most new inventions is a need. When faced with a necessity, one is likely to be inspired to create a novel or ingenious solution. History has proved that great inventions have always been made in emergency situations. A need or problem encourages creative efforts to meet the need or solve the problem. The fable of the clever crow is a story that appropriately illustrates that necessity is the mother of invention.

On a hot summer day a crow felt thirsty and he flew off in search of water. After a long search he saw a pitcher in a garden. He flew down to it but was unable to reach the little water at the bottom. He looked around and saw some pebbles scattered here and there. He started picking he pebbles and dropped them one by one into the pitcher. Gradually the water level rose and the crow drank the cool water and flew away crowing happily. His wisdom saved him from dying of thirst.

When a necessity cannot be attained by existing means, we are naturally compelled to use our mental faculty and find ways to meet our needs. So a need or problem leads to creative efforts to solve the problem. Necessity is indeed the main force behind every new invention and discovery.
