a) carbon forms a large number of compounds as it is:

1. tetravalent: have four valency.
2. catenation: ability to form long chain  compounds. i.e. covalent bonds.
3. multiple bond formation: it can form double or triple bonded compunds.

b) when vessel gets blackened it may be because of the holes of burner are not opened. they are checked because improper combustion of fuels led to blackened. hence, they are checked.

c)synthetic detergents causes pollution because enviromental bacterias can not function on them and hence are non-biodegradable.

since they are non biodegradable they remain in water bodies and cause pollution.

2. Air holes is the place from where gas comes and and leads to burning of flame when these holes gets damaged then the passage of the gas gets blocked which in leads to inadequate burning leading to blackened vessel.

3.Because detergents change the Ph value of water so it cause water pollution. detergents make water more basic in nature, the value of ph of water will move towards 9 to 10 from 7 so it affects the life in water.
