Question:

If  a = \dfrac{2}{3}, b = \dfrac{3}{4} then find the value of

1. 2a - b

2. a +  \dfrac{1}{2}b

Solution:

1. 2a - b

 2 (\dfrac{2}{3}) - \dfrac{3}{4}

 = \dfrac{4}{3} - \dfrac{3}{4}

 = \dfrac{16-9}{12}

 = \bold{\dfrac{7}{12}}

2. \bold{a + \dfrac{1}{2}b}

 \dfrac{2}{3} + \dfrac{1}{2} (\dfrac{3}{4})

 = \dfrac{2}{3} + \dfrac{3}{8}

 = \dfrac{16+9}{24}

 = \bold{\dfrac{25}{24}}
