This proverb has been in use from hundreds of years. It is said the fact that original creator of this older proverb could not be ascertained and thus it can be attributed to the famous Greek philosopher, Plato. The theory behind it got however been in use in many of the Latin and English functions much just before this saying came into being.

The Latin variation of this proverb, “Mater innenhof necessitas”, come up in the book titled, Vulgaria by simply author William Horma in 1519. An identical saying, “Need taught him wit”, made an appearance in British in the same year. “Necessitie, the inuentour of all goodnesse”, was one more similar stage that came in Roger Ascham’s work in 1545.
