It is good to have political competition in a democracy for the better transparency and functioning of the government. But there are both negative and positive effects.

The negative effects of the political competition are as follows:

  • Political competition may lead to corruption or an increase in corruption activities as parties try to buy votes or gain votes by other illegal activities.
  • These competitions lead to disunity among the people of the country as the political party seeks to gain more votes based on caste and religion.
  • Inequality is caused among the political parties as they do not get the opportunity due to lack of access to resources.
  • Political competition manipulates the law and order of free and fair elections as the political parties misuse their power and resources to win the elections.
