Neha is 5 years younger than Karishma. Twelve years ago Karishma was twice as old as Neha. Find their present ages.

Neha is 5 years younger than Karishma.

➛ y - x = 5

➛ y = 5 + x ...①

According to question,

➛ y - 12 = 2 ( x - 12 )

Substituting the value of y i.e, eq①, we have

➛ 5 + x - 12 = 2x - 24

➛ x - 7 = 2x - 24

➛ 2x - x = - 7 + 24

➛ x = 17

The present age of Neha = 17 years.

Now, find the present age of Karishma

Substituting the value of x i.e, eq①, we have

➛ y = 5 + x

➛ y = 5 + 17

➛ y = 22

The present age of Karishma = 22 years
