Given:

Neha is bringing her favourite dip to picnic.

This recipe is for 20 people but she  needs to make dip just for 10 people only.

Ingredients Quantity :

Yoghurt 5/2 cups

Salt ½ tsp

Lemon juice ¼ tsp

Olive oil 1/8 tsp

Garlic 2 cloves

To find:

a) What measure of yoghurt is required?

b) How much lemon juice is needed?

c) How much salt is required for 40 people?

d) Find the total amount of salt, lemon juice and olive oil used in the original recipe.

Solution:

(a). Finding the measure of yoghurt in the new recipe for 10 people:

If the recipe for 20 people requires → \frac{5}{2} \:cups of yoghurt

Then, the recipe for 1 people would require → \frac{\frac{5}{2} }{20} \:cups of yoghurt

∴ The recipe for 10 people would require = \frac{\frac{5}{2} }{20} \times 10 \:cups = \frac{5 }{4} \:cups of yoghurt

Thus,  \bold{\frac{5 }{4} \:cups} of yoghurt is required.

(b). Finding the measure of lemon juice in the new recipe for 10 people:

If the recipe for 20 people requires → \frac{1}{4} \:tsp of lemon juice

Then, the recipe for 1 people would require → \frac{\frac{1}{4} }{20} \:tsp of lemon juice

∴ The recipe for 10 people would require = \frac{\frac{1}{4} }{20} \times 10 \:tsp = \frac{1 }{8} \:tsp of lemon juice

Thus,  \bold{\frac{1 }{8} \:tsp} of lemon juice is needed.

(c). Finding the measure of salt in the recipe for 40 people:

If the recipe for 20 people requires → \frac{1}{2} \:tsp of salt

Then, the recipe for 1 people would require → \frac{\frac{1}{2} }{20} \:tsp of salt

∴ The recipe for 40 people would require = \frac{\frac{1}{2} }{20} \times 40 \:tsp = 1 \:tsp of salt

Thus,  \bold{1 \:tsp} of salt is required for 40 people.

(d). Finding the total amount of salt, lemon juice and olive oil used in the original recipe for 20 people:

The amount of salt, lemon & olive oil in the original recipe:

Salt → \frac{1}{2} \:tsp

Lemon juice → \frac{1 }{4} \:tsp

Olive oil → \frac{1}{8} \:tsp

∴ The total amount of salt, lemon & olive oil = \frac{1}{2} + \frac{1}{4} + \frac{1}{8} = \frac{4+2+1}{8} = \frac{7}{8}\:tsp

Thus, the total amount of salt, lemon juice and olive oil used in the original recipe is \bold{\frac{7}{8} \:tsp}.
