☞ Given :

Distance travelled in first lap = 90 meters

Distance travelled in second lap = 90 meters

Total distance = 180 meters

Time taken = 1 minute

☆ Required to find :

  1. Average speed
  2. Average Velocity

✎ Explanation :

In the question it is given that Neha is swimming in a long pool of 90 meters . She covers 180 meters in 1 minute . so he asked us to find average speed & average velocity .

we can find the average speed using a formula.

The formula is ;

average \: speed \:  =  \frac{total \: distance}{total \: time \: taken}

Hence, using this formula we can find the average speed.

Similarly;

To find average velocity we have to use the formula.

average \: velocity \:  =  \frac{total \: displacement}{total \: time \: taken}

Hence ; using this formula we can find average velocity .

✐ Solution

Total distance = 180 meters

Total time taken = 1 minute

convert minutes into seconds

Hence;

1 minute = 60 seconds

Total time taken = 60 seconds

Therefore ;

averagespeed = total distance/ Total time taken

Hence ;

average \: speed \:  =  \frac{180}{60}  \\  \\ average \: speed \:  = 3 \frac{m}{s}

Therefore;

Average speed = 3 m/s .

Similarly ;

Total displacement = 0 meters

( this is because the object again reached it's initial position ) .

Total time taken = 60 seconds.

Average Velocity = Total displacement / Total time taken

Therefore;

average \: velocity \:  =  \frac{0}{60}  \\  \\ average \: velocity \:  = 0 \frac{m}{s}

Hence;

Average Velocity is 0 m/s .
