y =2x-2.........(1)

the number of skirts is four less

than four times the number of pants

purchased

y=4x-4.....(2)

2x-2=4x-4

-2+4=4x-2x

2=2x

1=x

x=1

put x=1in equation (1), we get

y=2×1-2

y=0
