Answer:

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEHAVING WELL TOWARDS

It is important because it is a way of showing respect to your fellow man. This minimizes the risk of them beating you up.

Good behavior usually just means to try to act in a manner that hurts or annoys the fewest possible people around you (or with things like littering otherwise be affected by your actions.) Sometimes it is of course used as a social marker as in “I know which fork to use when eating foix-gras (assuming you actully eat it with a fork…)) and you don’t so you are not of my social class. But what constitutes good manners are not universal by any means. It depends on many things, among them nationality, social class, regional or local differences. actual physical location. religion. culture. race, time (not only year but time of day) and of course gender.

Examples: Inuits used to share wives occasionally (though the practice was often, but not always, part of a religious ceremony). Most Christians tend to frown on that practice.

In some higher social classes in some societies changing you clothes for dinner was seen as good behavior. Someone from a working class would normally not do so unless their clothes were very dirty from say work - but no one would blame them for not doing so.

In some cultures/nations (like China) burping after a meal is considered polite because it shows that you liked the meal. Don’t try that at a fancy British dinner.

Wearing a skirt when you are a man would look odd but not exceptionally rude in most places in the west but I would really advice against crashing a skinhead party while wearing a tu-tu

Going naked in your home is OK. Going naked to a (non-nudist) church, well…

Now as you have seen, a behavior that is polite in some circles is appalingly poor behavior in others, And sometimes representatives of several circles are presemt at once. So it is not always possible to follow every rule. Also some people might take offence if you seem to mimic their behavior even though it is obvious you are not part of their culture/sub-culture. So a good advice is to act as polite as you can while at least making a token effort to show respect to the culture you are in. You rarely need to be perfect, the effort will usually be appreciated. Sometimes this might be done by not flaunting the things you believe in while still keeping those belifs. So if you are a female feminist who travels to Saudia-Arabia, COVER YOUR HEAD. You can protest later. If you are a dedicated Christian in India, avoid deliberately insulting other religions (that is really appropriate most places most of the time) Even assuming you have free speach it does not mean you have to state your opinions everywhere every time. That is just bad manners.
