neither knew how to conjugate a verb nor could he answer questions on multiplication tables.
Everybody knew him to be a dull boy. He would be scolded so often, that the children of his class
began to pity him. In order to save him from the teacher's rebuke, they would prompt him with
answers, but to no use.
Years later, I happened to meet Amalkanti . Most boys of his class had grown up to become
something. Some who wanted to become lawyers had become doctors and some who wanted to
become doctors were now teachers. I wondered what Amalkanti had achieved in life, for he always
wanted to become sunlight. Sitting in a small room, before the printer, I saw Amalkanti printing
books after books. He published books, pamphlets, journals, magazines and what not; everything that
was source of knowledge. He published all kinds of books that would help a lawyer become a
lawyer, a doctor become a doctor and a teacher become a teacher.
Indeed, Amalkanti had become sunlight!
