Nelson Mandela was arrested and then convicted of conspiracy and sabotage to overthrow the government of South Africa, together with eight other National African Congress Leaders.
Nelson Mandela and other eight prisoners passed through a hard life in prison whereby they were given little food and were completely isolated.
Mandela was later on transferred to the maximum security Pollsmoor prison. It is believed that Mandela came in contact of Tuberculosis there only.
At the age of 71 and spending approximately 28 years in prison he was released with the help of an International Movement.
Mandela won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and became the president of India in the year 1994 and served upto 1999.
He died at the age of 95 on 5 December in 2013 due to respiratory disorder.
