Hydrogen is liberated when active metals react with dilute acid . Some reactions are:
1. Zn + H2SO4 ----› ZnSO4 + H2
2. Mg + 2HCl ----› MgCl2 + H2
Very reactive metals like -
1. Potassium
2. Sodium
3. Calcium
- displace hydrogen but are explosive in nature.
Less active metals like -
1. Copper
2. Silver
3. Gold
4. Platinum
- do not displace hydrogen from the acids.
