New opportunities of work did not always mean improved well beign for people. Like in Assam,both men and women from communities like the Santhals & Oraons from Jharkhand, Gonds from Chattisgarh etc, were recruited to work on the tea plantations. Their wages were very low & the conditions where they worked were very bad. Also they could not return easily to their homes or villages from where they had been recruited. Thus, the statement is justified
