Friction is the force ,  which opposes the relative motion between the two surfaces in contact.
New methods being adopted to reduce friction:

1. Use of Lubricants:
The parts of machines which are moving over one another must be properly  lubricated by using oil and grease.

2. Use of ball bearing :
In machine where possible, sliding friction can be replaced by rolling friction
by using ball bearings.

3. Streamlining:
Friction can Be reduced by changing the design of fast moving objects. The front of vehicles and aeroplanes made  to overcome fluid friction.

4. By making the surface Smooth:
Friction can be reduced by making surfaces smooth.

The following techniques can be adopted by human beings in order to reduce energy loss due to friction:

- We can use the lubricants like power or kerosene oil, for example, we use the powder while playing the carrom board in order to avoid the irregularities on the surface of the carrom board while playing to reduce the friction of the striker and the carrom board in order to move the striker more smoothly and on the other hand the kerosene oil is used to make the doors move more smoothly and easily.

- We can use the ball bearings, this method is usually used in the machines in which the balls are used so that they can roll over each other and can help decrease the friction.

- We can use streamlining this method helps the air cut down the fluid currents which are used to overcome the fluids friction. This method is used in cars, submarines, boats etc. There is an animal which is also an example of this method and that is a fish.
