Vacuum sealed: in a non-vacuum environment, there is no air and hence air friction. Gyros in aeroplanes are in a vacuum so they work better.
Magnets/electromagnets : if there is contact between surfaces then there is friction so magnets are used to keep sliding parts separate. Pretty sure it is used in the hyperloop system that is being developed as there is less friction.
New Flywheels , that are equipped with magnetic bearings and in vacuum, can run for hours from their own momentum.
